Amberwell Hiawatha offers excellent obstetrical care. Our staff is dedicated and passionate about their profession. We have amazing physicians and nursing staff that take great pride in staying up to date on current obstetric and newborn standards of care. Our team is very proactive and takes advantage of any additional educational opportunities and certifications beyond the minimum requirements. In doing so, this enhances our knowledge and ensures we are providing the highest quality of care to our patients. We strive to make sure that the safety and security of your labor and postpartum experience goes above and beyond your expectations. Our team provides specialized and individualized care during pregnancy, labor, postpartum, breastfeeding, and newborn care in a quite home-like setting; conveniently located in Hiawatha. We encourage you to stop in and/or call so that we can begin planning for this very special event in your life.
Our Registered Nurses and staff have advanced training in childbirth education, fetal monitoring, neonatal care and breastfeeding. All RN's are required to have the following certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Our staff members go above and beyond to ensure you receive the best care possible. Our staff have worked to achieve these additional certifications beyond the basic requirements:
Certified Lactation Counseling (CLC)
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST)
Childbirth Educator (CBE)
Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Our Maternal Child Care Department achieved "Center of Excellence" designation by completing Vermont Oxford Network Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (VONNAS) training. This is a universal education program for birthing hospitals in Kansas for standardization of care in identification, evaluation, treatment and safe discharge of infants with NAS.
With that in mind our Maternal Child Care staff has recently implemented the High 5 program at our facility and are striving for High 5 certification.
What can you expect from the High 5 program?
1.Skin-to-skin right after birth
If you do desire, your baby will be placed on your chest right after birth so you and baby can bond.
2.Nothing but breast milk
Your baby will thrive on your milk and nothing else unless medically indicated.
Your baby may stay in your room(depending on delivery circumstances)so you can learn your baby's routine in regards to hunger cues.
4.No pacifiers or bottle nipples
Your baby needs to learn how to nurse at the breast without the interference or confusion of pacifiers or bottle nipples.
You will be given information for breastfeeding support in our community.
In order to help you better prepare for the birth of your baby we offer childbirth education courses
